Courtney Shanade Salter, also called Ari Lennox, a Washington, D.C.-based American singer/songwriter, was signed by the label's first female artist with Dreamville Records by J. Cole. The label released her first album titled Pho in the month of October of 2016 when she began to gain recognition. Her debut album Shea Butter Baby was released on May 7 2019. Ari Lennox began posting her music to the internet in 2012 as she released her debut mixtape Five Finger Discount and debut EP Ariography in 2013. Ari Lennox continued uploading her music on the internet, including her self-released single Bound. The track Sweat it is included on Omen's Elephant Eyes album, which was released on July 21st, 2015. J. Cole asked her to join him in collaboration for Rihanna's reference.
